Hybrid renewable projects = firm power

Orange France benefits from solar + energy storage

Orange (French telecommunications company) and ZE Energy, a French company that develops, builds, and operates hybrid solar power plants combining photovoltaic and storage, signed a 15-year corporate PPA covering 90 GWh per year. The electricity produced stems from a new hybrid solar power plant set to be connected in 2025.

The installation will couple a 77 MWp photovoltaic power plant with a lithium-ion battery storage system with a capacity of 14.8 MW / 33.5 MWh to capture the sun when it shines, and then use the energy after sunset or inject over-supply back into the grid.

This is Orange France’s first corporate PPA with hybrid solar + storage power plants. This solution allows Orange to benefit from a production profile better suited to its needs by reducing production peaks, particularly in the middle of the day in summer.

“This type of PPA guarantees us competitive renewable energy and also allows, thanks to batteries, to store it when there is excess energy to avoid losses.”
