Financing new renewables projects

Société Générale (French financial services company) signed a 20-year solar power PPA with French producer JP Energie Environnement (JPee), financing a new photovoltaic power plant in France. This initiative is part of the two companies’ shared ambition to develop new green energy production capacity to support the energy transition.

The electricity production of this plant aims to cover between 10% and 15% of the annual consumption of the bank’s central and network services in France, around 16.7 GWh per year.

The project involves the producer operating 14.2 hectares of pastureland on one of the sections of the Arpheuilles solar farm, ensuring that on-site agricultural activity (sheepfold and sheep farming) is preserved. The energy produced by the installation of solar panels will be fed into the French electricity grid.

This initiative demonstrates Société Générale’s commitment to the energy transition and is part of the organisation’s decarbonisation efforts. In 2019, Société Générale was the first bank in France and one of the first companies to sign a three-year wind energy supply contract with EDF (French utility company).
