Atlantic Copper’s corporate PPA increases its renewables coverage to 82%

Europe's third largest smelter and refiner leads the way in covering its energy demand with electricity from renewable sources.

Atlantic Copper (Spanish metals production company) and Alter Enersun (Spanish solar energy company) signed a corporate PPA in 2024 for the construction of a 30 MWp photovoltaic plant that will supply green energy for self-consumption. The plant will be operational in 2026, with an estimated production of 53 GWh per year.

The 25-year agreement, which involved an investment of €16 million by Alter Enersun, represents one of the most important industrial self-consumption developments in Spain. It will supply renewable electricity to Atlantic Copper’s operations and bring its renewables coverage to 82%, thereby enhancing the company’s commitments to energy independence and sustainability.

“The commitment to long-term fixed-price electricity supply contracts consolidates our strategy of becoming independent from the volatility of the electricity market, making us more resistant to energy price crises, such as the one experienced in recent years.”
