Construction companies Ferrovial SE, from Spain, and Spie Batignolle, from France, secured renewable energy to power their operations while building a section of Paris metro Line 18. The agreement was reached with EDF (French utility company) to procure 25 GWh, sourced exclusively from renewables.
The Ferrovial-Spie consortium was awarded the contract to build a section of the line 18, to connect Orly Airport to the city of Versailles. The job requires digging a 6.7 kilometre long tunnel, construction of three stations and eight ancillary structures.
Ferrovial anticipates the tunnel boring machine to consume 13.5 GWh of the contracted electricity, while the remaining power will be used to operate the ancillary equipment required for construction.
