Munich Airport procures offshore wind power from RWE

PPA helps Munich Airport save around 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually

Electro-intensive industries working with renewables

Munich Airport and RWE signed a 10-year PPA in February 2026 that secures 40 GWh of renewable electricity annually from the Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm. The project, with a total capacity of 660 MW, supplies enough green electricity to power roughly 12,000 households each year and covers the airport’s infrastructure needs such as buildings. The agreement supports Munich Airport’s NetZero 2035 sustainability strategy by ensuring a stable long-term supply of renewable energy while also contributing to the expansion of wind power in Germany.

“The additional green electricity makes a significant contribution to our own energy supply, while at the same time making a key contribution to achieving the airport's in-company climate targets by saving approximately 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.”
